Plot[]
In a callback to the events of Arc XXXI: Eye Opener, Vinci approaches Drip and offers to make a deal with him, claiming the angels have asked him to atone for his actions. He offers his daughter Greer to be his slave for eternity in exchange for him leaving Farrago alone. Drip agrees, and Vinci, feeling he's got one over on Drip, gloats that since she's still alive, there's no guarantee she'll end up in Hell. Drip then turns this on Vinci, saying their deal didn't require him to wait until Greer was dead. Vinci is absolutely shaken by this reveal, and Drips laughs at Vinci's misfortune.
Vinci then suddenly wakes up, the whole exchange a nightmare. He meets Jack and tells him about the dream, and Jack reassures him that the angels would never have him make such a bargain. Vinci is shocked to discover that people even can dream in Hell, and suspects that folks in Heaven probably don't need to. Vinci is still having trouble figuring the angels out, and Jack tells him that the angels had been helping Jack, but he ruined it when he hurt Farrago. Vinci sympathizes, and imagine his daughter Greer must blame him for taking his own life.
Jack decides to take Vinci to Earth, where his daughter Greer is watching a funeral. Jack assumes mortal form as a child Greer's age and approaches her, making small talk with her before he reveals he was sent by someone to tell her he cared deeply about her. She is naturally suspicious since she didn't share that her father committed suicide when Jack lets that information slip, which Jack evades by sharing the the person who sent her used to sing her a lullaby. Vinci begins to recite the song in unison with Greer, who while she doesn't see or hear him, senses his presence.
Greer feels a sense of relief and Jack introduces himself to her, remaining cryptic toward his purpose and promising to see her again one day. Vinci is grateful that he got to see his daughter and is tremendously relieved. Jack begins to depart as his duties call, but before leaving asks Vinci to find out if people in Heaven can dream. Vinci starts to suggest he can ask an angel, but Jack insists that Vinci find out firsthand. Vinci seems disheartened at this request, not believing himself capable of escaping from Hell.
