| Arc XXVIII: Two For You | Short XXXV: A Way Out | |||||||
John, still in Hell following the events of Arc VII: All Work And No Play..., is recounting his story about seeking redemption for his actions. He tells about how his friends Ted and Shanna are happily living together in Heaven and he hopes he can follow their example.
Trying to figure out what's keeping in him Hell, he's visited by The Hubbard, insect like beings who wear masks with smiley faces on them. They promise to show him the path to salvation if he agrees to wear a backpack loaded with weights, which he agrees. John happily walks about Hell, noticing how no one seems to notice his backpack.
He realizes that he has never seen anyone carrying a backpack, and if this was such a guaranteed road to salvation, shouldn't he see others with bags. He finally gives up, dropping his bag out his apartment window. The Hubbard return, and convince him to try again, but this time he must carry more weight.
John goes about this, running into Jack who seems very upset about his actions. John is upset that Jack isn't happy he's trying to better himself, and leaves in a huff. The Hubbard tell him to avoid talking to outsiders. John, who has no more friends in Hell, agrees.
It's finally revealed that John's body is now stuck in a giant weight, in a sea of other furs, seemingly in blissful content.
